Barley Eugene St. Jean born crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday the 23rd of November in Sunbury, Ohio in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He is survived by his favorite squeaky penguin toy and five-year-old brother Gryffindor, whom he always hoped would return to whence he came, but secretly liked.

Barley was born March 2007 near Columbus, Ohio and a year later landed in the temporary care of a young recent college graduate before quickly capturing her heart, as well as her remote control, mail, and other items around the house. They enjoyed a special bond for the rest of his thirteen and a half years. This consisted of much nose poking to play, bouncing to go outside, as well as taking up as much of the bed as possible. Most of this was done by Barley.

Barley was also an avid traveler, both for work and pleasure. He lived in five cities from NYC to Austin. He enjoyed camping and hiking trips and getting to try grass from all different parts of the eastern United States. Because of his travels, he had the opportunity to take naps with many different roommates and travel companions, which was a favorite sport of his.

He made human and dog friends wherever he went. He was too enthusiastic to ever make a good small animal friend. His passion was going on walks no matter the temperature, hot or cold, rain or shine, but then would want to go back in if there was rain. He had many hobbies from stick chewing to finding the one mud puddle in the dog park, as well as occupying your seat as soon as you left for a moment.

A few of his favorite things in life were peanut butter, rolling around in the grass, laying in the sun, and going for car rides, although he would just curl up and go to sleep. He also enjoyed staring at you outside as you called him and then continuing to take in smells until he was ready to come.

Barley was a dog that touched the lives of many people. He was the dog even non-dog people liked. Although he wasn’t the best obedience dog and listened when he wanted to, he listened at all the right times.

He was a very, very good boy.
